Bye Bye Rafa

So it's goodbye Rafa Nadal after he loses what turned out in the end to be a really good tennis match against Davydenko.

For a set and a half there was only one winner until Rafa dug deep into himself and started to find the kind of tennis he played about a year ago.

In fact, although he lost the second set and the match on a tie break my feeling was that if he could have won the breaker, he would have gone on to win the match.

So it's Djokovic next for Rafa while Davydenko faces up to Soderling (who is already through) to try and book a place in the semi finals of the Tennis Masters Cup 2009.

Federer Comes Through

So, second singles match in The Tennis Masters Cup 2009 & Roger Federer after maybe the worst first game I have ever seen him play and after losing the first set against Verdasco comes through to win 6-1 in the third set.

For my money, he is not at his best but will be improving as the week progresses.

Not quite a dangerous floater but the others should be aware that if he makes it through to the semis having played 3 matches he will be difficult to move.

By then his game will be purring and the footwork and therefore the shots will be effortless.

Tennis Masters Cup 2009 - Go!

So, we are underway at the O2 London for the Tennis Masters Cup 2009.

The first match (the doubles) has finished with Fyrstenberg & Matkowski defeating top seeds Nestor & Zimonic.

Then, the first "biggie".

Andy Murray has just defeated Juan Del Potro in 3 sets in a match that was simply about a couple of simple factors.

Del Potro served and played poorly in the 1st & 3rd sets.

Murray, played poorly in the second set.

Simple!

I'm looking forward to Federer vs Verdasco later before I go to the O2 in person all day tomorrow.
